To the Voters of the Fifth Legislative District:
I am running for the Nassau County Legislature to be an advocate for the taxpayers.
It is time that the people who pay the County government's bills, and who have been forced to pay more and more of their hard-earned money in taxes only to receive less and less in return from their local government, had a Legislator who will make the protection of their pocketbooks and the preservation of basic government services his first priority.
My opponent, the present County Legislator, voted for a nearly four‒percent property tax increase late last year. My opponent voted for a County tax on home-heating fuels in this cold, snowy winter. His vote was decisive and could have prevented the passage of these tax hikes—both measures passed by a single vote.
It is time to down‒size and right‒size County government, not increase the burden on citizens who already pay the highest property and sales taxes in the nation.
I will work to finally end the entrenched policies that have brought us recurring fiscal crises, too much spending, out‒of‒control labor costs, excessive patronage and a gravy‒train government mentality that lavishes benefits on the few at the expense of the public.
I ask you to stand with me in my quest to protect basic government services, my fight to end unaffordable levels of spending and my commitment to stopping the imposition of further taxes and fees on County residents.
