Biography
A native Long Islander, Christian Browne was raised in Rockville Centre, where his family has lived for over thirty years. Both of Chris's parents, Arthur and Gretchen Browne, were raised in Freeport. Gretchen served as director of the Rockville Centre Public Library for six years. He has two brothers, Brendan and Patrick, and a sister, Courtenay.
Chris attended public schools in Rockville Centre through the eighth grade. He is a graduate of Regis High School, the College of the Holy Cross and Fordham University School of Law, where he attended most of his classes at night while working full time.
Chris is presently a lawyer in private practice on Long Island. From 2004 through 2007, he prosecuted scores of criminal cases, ranging from domestic violence matters, to narcotics possession and sale offenses and violent felonies, as an assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.
Prior to his work as an attorney, Chris served as an aide to Mayor Rudy Giuliani from 1999 to 2002. During his tenure at City Hall, he helped manage the Giuliani Administration's dealings with the New York City Council as Deputy Director of City Legislative Affairs. He was a part of the team that worked out of the city's command center after the September 11th terrorist attacks, helping to coordinate parts of the initial recovery efforts.
Chris and his wife, the former Lauren Schaefer, live in the Greystone section of Rockville Centre. Lauren, a teacher, is Rockville Centre native and the two were classmates at Hewitt Elementary School and South Side Middle School. Their son, Joseph Ignatius, will be two years old on Halloween 2009.
Chris is an active member of St. Agnes Cathedral Parish, the Rockville Centre Lions Club and the Nassau County Catholic Lawyers Guild. He also serves as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals for the Town of Hempstead.
Chris Browne is a fiscal conservative who believes in the limited government principles embodied in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. He supports pro-growth economic policies that reduce the tax burden on individuals and business and that foster job creation.
As a County Legislator, Chris will vote to repeal the new county Energy Tax that his opponent voted to create earlier this year. He will vote to cut spending and he will block efforts by the present County Executive to institute annual property tax increases and a new tax on fast-food. Chris will also oppose reckless borrowing and the use of fiscal gimmicks to close budget deficits.
In Chris Browne, taxpayers will, at
last, have an advocate for their interests in Nassau County government.
